The PASOK party has condemned what it describes as an ‘unprecedented smear campaign’ against its leader and head of the official opposition, Nikos Androulakis, in a statement issued on Friday, 15 May 2026. The allegations relate to the rental of a property owned by Androulakis to a public entity.
‘Shameless and vulgar parallel state’
In its statement, PASOK accused New Democracy (ND) — Greece’s ruling party — of deploying a ‘shameless and vulgar parallel state’, supported by its financial backers, to launch a coordinated smear operation. According to PASOK, the sole aim is to damage both the party and its president.
‘Since yesterday, an unprecedented smear campaign against the PASOK president has been unfolding. The slander has been thoroughly and definitively refuted with clear, documented evidence. Yet, ND’s parallel state and its sponsors continue their mudslinging with one singular objective: to attack PASOK and its leader, to offset their own political decline by poisoning public life and tarnishing the integrity and ethics of their political opponents.’
PASOK also warned that other media outlets — some with different political affiliations — appear to be aligning themselves with this effort, suggesting a broader, orchestrated attempt to undermine democratic opposition. It described the operation as part of a ‘heterogeneous mechanism of vested interests’ seeking to impose a controlled political system — with its power centres now becoming visible to the public eye.
Georgiadis ‘remains mired in darkness’
The statement further addressed comments made earlier the same day by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, who accused Androulakis of lying. PASOK responded by asserting that Georgiadis is repeating falsehoods — specifically citing unsubstantiated claims about millions of euros allegedly tied to the property deal, with no supporting tax documentation.
‘Mr. Georgiadis repeats the same lies today and continues speaking of sums that appear nowhere in any official tax document. He is fully aware of the falsehood yet persists, unrepentant, in the swamp and darkness. We recall he used identical rhetoric against the ND government under Kostas Karamanlis — before he himself joined ND.’
The statement ends with a pointed reference to Georgiadis’ past role as Minister of Investments, noting he was reportedly placed under surveillance on orders from the Maximos Mansion — and that he fears public scrutiny of the reasons behind it. ‘We have nothing to say to this far-right mudslinger,’ PASOK added.
The party concluded by affirming that all matters will be resolved where they belong — in court. It called on Georgiadis and ND to publicly commit not to hide behind parliamentary immunity.
