in

Today (02.04.25), all eyes in the domestic political arena are focused on the pre-agenda debate at the parliamentary level among political leaders regarding defense and armaments. The discussion was opened by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who presented the framework of the new 12-year defense policy and armament program. Following his speech, other political leaders will address the assembly, with PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis currently speaking. Notably, the prime minister has the right to a rebuttal during this session. Earlier, Mr. Mitsotakis outlined how the Armed Forces will transition into a new era shaped by technological advancements and evolving military conflicts. He extensively referenced significant geopolitical changes and the European Union’s decision to strengthen its defense capabilities. This debate takes place amid calls from MPs and two ministers of New Democracy for increased personnel in security forces, akin to the recent announcements concerning the Armed Forces.
