The settlement of Kato Nestorio in Kastoria has been included in the Special Programme for a Just Developmental Transition under Greece’s National Development Programme (NDP) 2021–2025. The decision was announced by Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis.

€2 Million Project for Public Space Renewal

The integrated revitalization project covers a public area of 15,978 square meters and carries a total public investment of €2 million. According to Papathanasis, the initiative includes multifaceted interventions: road network upgrades featuring four distinct types of pavement; construction and restoration of traditional dry-stone retaining walls (known locally as argolithodomes); and targeted enhancements at sites of particular social and historical significance.

Improved Accessibility and Environmental Quality

The redesign of pedestrian routes and shared spaces aims to create safer, more comfortable movement for residents and visitors alike. It reduces hazardous points, ensures equal access—including for elderly people and persons with disabilities—and contributes to environmental upgrading through the use of natural materials and new greenery plantings.
