Following a decision signed by Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis, a new funding call has been published for the Ptolemaida region. The call—issued under the Special Programme for Just Transition Development, part of Greece’s National Development Programme 2021–2025—targets the revitalisation of the Ptolemaida Industrial Zone (BIOPA), with a total budget of €25 million.
The initiative focuses on environmental remediation of a 506-hectare site formerly occupied by the Ptolemaida Nitrogen Fertilizer Complex (AEBAL), a long-standing industrial facility. Funding will cover essential decontamination and restoration works needed to make the land safe and suitable for reuse.
Once completed, the project is expected to lay the groundwork for the development of the Ptolemaida Industrial Park—a key step in the region’s economic diversification and post-coal transition strategy.
