Greek Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis announced public investments totaling €2.18 million for water supply infrastructure upgrades in the Prespes Municipality, located in northern Greece’s Florina regional unit. The projects are part of the Special Programme for Just Developmental Transition under the National Development Programme (NDP) 2021–2025.
Modernising Water Infrastructure
The funding supports two key interventions: the complete replacement of the aging water distribution network in the traditional settlement of Agios Germanos, and the construction of three new, modern water reservoirs in the villages of Psarades, Trigono, and Prasino — all within the same municipality.
Agios Germanos Network Replacement
A €1.31 million investment will replace the entire existing water network in Agios Germanos, which suffers from serious functional and structural deficiencies due to its age. The project includes laying new pipelines using modern, high-specification materials; installing control and safety devices; replacing outdated household connections; and fully restoring road surfaces after excavation — all while preserving the village’s traditional architectural character.
New Reservoirs in Psarades, Trigono, and Prasino
An additional €866,935 will fund the construction of three separate, new reinforced concrete water reservoirs — one each in Psarades, Trigono, and Prasino. These will replace aging, deteriorated tanks that currently pose significant issues related to leakage, structural integrity, and hygiene. The new reservoirs will be fully watertight and meet current health and safety standards.
