Papastrourou: Government Ready to Act if Energy Crisis Strikes

in

In an interview with SKAI, Energy Minister Stavros Papastrourou announced that the government is prepared to intervene appropriately should an energy crisis arise. He emphasized that Greece is well-prepared but acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its global implications. Despite this, Greece has diversified its energy mix and achieved financial stability. The minister highlighted past successful interventions during crises such as the pandemic, energy inflation, and hybrid conflicts in Evros, pledging similar action now. He noted initial reactions in Asian markets, though not extreme, and anticipated insights from the opening of U.S. energy markets. Papastrourou also suggested that closing the Strait of Hormuz would impact major players like Russia and China. He concluded by calling for a unified EU energy strategy rather than 27 separate ones.
