The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s approval of the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act represents a strong vote of confidence, according to Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastaurou, who shared the news in a social media post.

Strategic Energy Cooperation

Papastaurou highlighted the strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean in Greece’s evolving energy security architecture—built jointly with Cyprus, Israel, and the United States. He described the legislation as another significant step forward, following high-level energy talks held last Thursday in Houston under the 3+1 Energy Ministerial Dialogue framework—a collaboration involving Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the U.S.

New Institutional Momentum

The minister also pointed to the recent establishment of the East Med Energy Center (EMEC), a new institutional platform designed to translate regional energy cooperation into concrete projects, investments, and innovation. According to Papastaurou, the Eastern Mediterranean is increasingly becoming a zone of stability, energy security, and shared prosperity.

“We will continue working to position the Eastern Mediterranean as a bridge for transatlantic cooperation, regional development, and energy resilience—benefiting the peoples of the broader region,” he added.
