According to PAOK, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emerged from the no-confidence motion process visibly weakened. He avoided answering questions regarding the government’s responsibilities in various issues. During their assessment of the debate at Harilaou Trikoupis, they noted that the prime minister displayed political weakness—not only failing to address major issues concerning his government’s role in the Tempi tragedy but also showing an inability to respond to societal demands for reinforcing trust in institutions, strengthening the separation of powers, and shaping a capable and effective state. Notably, Mr. Mitsotakis was compelled to accept two institutional initiatives by Nikos Androulakis regarding changes in the selection method of judicial leadership and the law on ministerial responsibility within constitutional reform. These initiatives were discussed by PAOK in a special conference with legal experts, judges, and academics to shape their stance and respond to calls for enhancing institutional trust. PAOK spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas emphasized that the prime minister provided no answers to critical questions, including those about the lack of implementation of the 17 recommendations from EOΔΑΣΑΜ and allegations of pressure on the fire inspector before drafting the autopsy report. Instead, the prime minister reportedly claimed the opposition was responsible for stopping the alleged misconduct of his ministers, which PAOK deemed absurd. Moving forward, PAOK plans to open discussions on public administration reforms and housing policy. Regarding the government’s attempt to initiate institutional change discussions during constitutional reform, Tsoukalas reiterated that New Democracy merely echoes proposals initially made by PAOK. He criticized the government for often appearing to accept ideas but ultimately taking no substantial action. The second regional conference of PAOK is scheduled for Saturday in Komotini. Tsoukalas also highlighted the electoral challenge, stating that for political change to occur, New Democracy must not remain the leading party. He urged all democratic progressives to consider PAOK as the realistic alternative for transparency and justice.
