In a recent post referencing events from 2015 when his party, ANEL, was in coalition government with SYRIZA, former party president and Defense Minister Panos Kammenos made a strong statement. He declared his trust in Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin but credited Barack Obama and François Hollande for providing a solution to Greece’s economic crisis at the time.
Kammenos accused German Chancellor Angela Merkel of only telling half the truth and vowed to reveal documents and secret minutes from political leaders that have been hidden until now. ‘Because Merkel is only telling half the truth, I will speak about what happened in 2015 with documented evidence. I fully believe in Trump and Putin, but it was President Obama and President Hollande who delivered the solution. The secret minutes that they are hiding—I will reveal them. They are breaking my silence,’ Kammenos wrote.
The post has sparked renewed interest in Greece’s political dealings during the height of its financial crisis and raises questions about behind-the-scenes negotiations involving international leaders.
