Given the reduction in the level of the waters of the aquifer, today held, at the offices of the Development Agency of Crete (OAC), a broad meeting of all involved parties and it was agreed, in the first instance, to call for saving and rational use of water for irrigation and water supply by private individuals, businesses and farmers. As has been pointed out, in any other case be viewed the possibility of a decision on forced vacation in the water supply, the next period of time.
Also, it was decided to convene, next week, new meeting, with the participation of the competent from the Decentralised Administration of Crete, in order to draw up an operational plan in case there’s a need for emergency measures. In fact, it was emphasized that the deliberations of the competent authorities and stakeholders will be frequent, in order to take relevant decisions quickly and to deal with the problem until the next winter.
“What everyone needs to understand consumers, individuals, farmers, large units, is that the rational use need to become aware, now, regardless of whether we have water or not. Adopting preventive measures will not have a problem. This is the message”, stressed the ceo of the OAC, Fotis Kazazis , noting, however, that there are no grounds for panic.
The need for rational use of water have pointed out the president of the inter-municipal Company of Water supply and Sewerage of Chania, Antonis Σχετάκης, as well as the chairman of the Intermunicipal Company’s North Shaft, Giannis Stamatakis.
