The Pan-Hellenic exams for the General Upper Secondary Schools (GEL) begin on Friday, May 30th, with candidates starting with the Composition exam (Modern Greek Language and Literature). Candidates are vying for one of the 68,788 spots in tertiary education for the academic year 2025-2026. All participants in the Pan-Hellenic exams 2025 must arrive at their examination rooms no later than 8 a.m., with exams commencing at 8:30 p.m., a common start time for both day and evening GEL students. Each exam lasts three hours, and the syllabus and questions are identical for all candidates from both day and evening schools.
Candidates must bring the following items: identity card or passport, examination booklet, and a blue or black ink pen. Pencils are only allowed if specifically permitted by the question guidelines. Additionally, candidates may bring hair ties, erasers, geometry tools for relevant subjects, a small water or juice bottle, and an analog wristwatch. However, books, notebooks, notes, correction fluid, mobile phones, smart devices, and computers are strictly prohibited.
The exam schedule is as follows: On May 30th, GEL candidates will take the Composition exam, while EPAL candidates will sit for Modern Greek on May 31st. Further exams include Ancient Greek, Mathematics, Biology, Latin, Chemistry, Informatics, History, Physics, and Economics across various streams. Specialized subject exams for EPAL students will be held from June 5th to June 16th, with physical education practical tests scheduled from June 16th to June 27th.
