The Palm Beach International Airport in Florida has been officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, in honor of the former and current U.S. president. The move reflects ongoing political support for Trump, who has made Florida his permanent home base and maintains his well-known Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach.
A Symbolic Shift
The renaming underscores Trump’s deep ties to the region. His son, Eric Trump, told Fox News: “I don’t think there’s anyone else in the entire state of Florida more connected to Palm Beach than Donald Trump.”
Hours after the name change took effect, Eric Trump and members of his family flew in on a private jet — marking the first landing at the airport under its new name. He emphasized the symbolic importance of the moment, saying, “There was no way in the world I was going to let UPS be the first plane to land here.”
The airport’s official X (formerly Twitter) account announced the transition with a post reading: “Signs of change ahead! We are officially in transition mode! We’re working behind the scenes to update our physical signage, terminal spaces, and digital channels to our new name: President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
Broadening the Brand
Since Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025, his name has been attached to several federal initiatives and infrastructure projects. These include a new class of U.S. Navy warships, a visa program targeting wealthy foreign nationals, a government website for prescription drug information, and federal children’s savings accounts.
However, not all naming proposals have succeeded. Federal courts blocked an attempt to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after Trump.
Cost and Context
According to airport sources, the renaming cost approximately $5.5 million. This includes updates to signage, branding across terminals, digital platforms, and official documentation.
The move follows precedent: other U.S. airports bear politicians’ names — including the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas; Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas; and Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport in California.
