The political protection service of Gaza’s southern region reported that an Israeli aerial strike hit the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, located in the southern part of the Palestinian enclave. The Israeli army resumed its bombings after a two-month ceasefire. A source within Hamas confirmed that Ismail Barhoom, a member of the Islamic movement’s political office, was killed during the attack. The Israeli military confirmed it conducted a ‘precision strike against a significant Hamas terrorist operating inside the hospital complex.’ According to the Israeli military, the Palestinian Islamist movement exploits non-military infrastructure, endangering the population of Gaza. ‘Israeli aircraft targeted the emergency department of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis,’ announced the emergency services, without specifying whether the strike caused casualties. The Hamas Health Ministry stated the strike aimed at ‘the surgery building within the medical complex where many patients and injured are being treated,’ adding that a large fire erupted there. Palestinian doctors reported five people were killed. According to a Hamas source who wished to remain anonymous, Ismail Barhoom was inside the hospital receiving treatment for severe injuries from an earlier air strike on his home in Khan Younis when the Israeli army launched a new wave of attacks following a two-month truce. Since Tuesday, several high-ranking Hamas members have been killed in Israeli strikes.
