Pakistan Threatens Revenge Against India Amid Escalating Tensions

in

Tensions between Pakistan and India have reached a boiling point following a missile attack on Pakistani soil. The Pakistani government has vowed to retaliate for the deaths caused by Indian airstrikes, which were allegedly in response to a recent attack in Kashmir. This escalation marks one of the worst military confrontations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in decades. At least 31 people were killed on the Pakistani side and 12 on the Indian side, making it the most severe conflict since the early 2000s. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif pledged revenge for the victims, while Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ordering the bombings to boost his popularity. Since the April 22nd attack in Pulwama, where 26 people died, both countries have continued exchanging fire. Calls for restraint have come from global powers like China, the UK, the EU, the UN, Russia, the USA, and France. Despite these appeals, armed forces from both sides exchanged artillery fire along the disputed borders in Kashmir after India’s aerial strikes on Pakistani territory. India claims its attacks targeted only ‘terrorist infrastructure’ while avoiding civilian casualties. However, Pakistan disputes this, reporting significant civilian losses and damage to infrastructure, including a hydroelectric dam. The situation remains volatile, with potential consequences that could escalate into full-scale war, as warned by Turkey’s Foreign Minister. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but tensions remain high, raising fears of further escalation.
