Over 77,000 pensioners benefit from the new regulation on Solidarity Contributions

Close to 77,000 pensioners will benefit from the new regulation on Pensioner Solidarity Contributions, according to secure information from newsit.gr. It is recalled that the relevant regulation, which is already in public consultation, provides for an increase in the ‘retired Solidarity Contributions’ (EAPs) from 1 January 2025 at the rate of the increase in the main pensions on the same date. According to what emerges from the 2025 draft budget report, the increase to be given in January 2025 (practice from late December 2024) in all major pensions will be 2.4%. At the same rate (2.4%), the thresholds of the ESAs will therefore be increased. The aim of this regulation is to avoid the phenomenon whereby a pensioner saw his pension reduced, after the increase he received, as it led to his pension on a higher scale EAS. Through the increase in EA thresholds, they will be exempted from EAS or will have a lower burden of close to 77,000 pensioners, which correspond to 1/4 of those pensioners who pay these contributions in favour of the Generation Solidarity Insurance Fund (GAGE). Those who will pay lower EAS this year than those who would pay if the old rules applied are over 78 thousand, about 25% of those who pay EAS.
