A total of nearly 702,000 (701,823) declarations were submitted for property cleanups by the deadline on Sunday, June 15th. According to data from the Civil Protection Authority, there was a significant increase in submissions last week, with almost 90,000 declarations filed through https://akatharista.apps.gov.gr on the final day. Meanwhile, 329 out of 334 municipalities have now registered on the digital platform, representing nearly 100% participation compared to only 55% (185 municipalities) at the same time last year. The number of declarations is seen positively, considering this year’s submission period was much shorter than last year’s, which extended until July 15, 2024. Systematic inspections are expected from both the Fire Department and local municipalities, with administrative penalties for neglect and potential criminal consequences for false declarations. Moreover, according to recent legislation, the Fire Department now has the authority to conduct inspections and impose fines based on citizen complaints regarding properties with unclean lots. Additionally, each municipality is required to perform sample inspections corresponding to at least 5% of the total declarations within their administrative boundaries.
