Traffic was heavy from early Friday afternoon (June 6, 2025) as the exodus began for the Pentecost long weekend. Residents of Athens and other urban centers are leaving en masse for nearby destinations. According to official data from Trochaea, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., 24,786 vehicles passed through the tolls on the Athens-Lamia highway, while 30,840 vehicles left via the Athens-Corinth route. Traffic is periodically intense in specific sections of both major national highways—particularly on the Athens-Corinth road beyond Chaidari—and delays are reported at the toll booths. Meanwhile, estimates from Piraeus Port Authority indicate that nearly 9,000 people (8,829) departed for the Saronic Gulf islands today. In total, approximately 19,159 passengers are expected to leave from Piraeus, 9,050 from Rafina, and 4,692 from Lavrio.
