The removal from duty at a level crossing proceeded against an employee who allegedly delayed lowering the barriers. In an official announcement, OSE stated that the dismissal of the guard, who was responsible for service on the Thessaloniki – Alexandroupolis railway line, was immediate and described the incident as serious negligence. Specifically, during the passage of freight train 45904, the guard reportedly failed to lower the barriers in time, despite the presence of a vehicle near the crossing. The driver alerted authorities, leading to the immediate replacement and subsequent dismissal of the guard. According to OSE management, under the new stricter penalty framework, such breaches of duty will not go unpunished. Management emphasized that ‘OSE’s response was immediate and within the framework of zero tolerance adopted for issues concerning railway safety.’
