Orphaned Bear Cub ‘Martha’ Released Back Into the Wild in Kozani

in

The young bear cub, Martha, who was found alone and frightened in a residential yard in Emporio Eordaia, Kozani last year, has been successfully released back into her natural habitat. Despite efforts to locate her mother at the time of discovery, she remained orphaned and began a new life under the care of ARCTURO, the Greek wildlife conservation organization.

Throughout her rehabilitation, Martha had limited human contact to ensure she retained her wild instincts. According to ARCTURO, she always displayed natural, cautious behavior, avoiding her caretakers as a truly wild animal should. After a full year of care and recovery at ARCTURO’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Martha is now free once again, exactly where she belongs—in nature.

Encouragingly, early signals from her tracking devices show that she is actively avoiding human settlements, a promising sign for her future survival.
