Orange Electricity Tariffs Launch with Hourly Pricing

Starting February 1, 2026, Greece introduces ‘orange’ dynamic electricity tariffs—hourly priced plans designed to help consumers and businesses optimize energy costs. Initially targeting large enterprises with smart meters and supply capacity above 25 kVA, the scheme extends to households and SMEs from April 1, 2026. Under this model, electricity prices fluctuate hourly based on wholesale market conditions, with suppliers required to publish next-day hourly rates by 5 PM. Consumers gain flexibility to shift usage to cheaper periods—especially midday, when solar generation peaks—and avoid costly evening peak hours. Households and SMEs will pay a fixed monthly fee plus an hourly variable rate; large consumers face more direct exposure to real-time pricing and load-shifting incentives. The initiative supports government goals of enhancing market competition and reducing energy bills.
