Opinion Poll Survey: Citizens Accuse Government of Cover-Up and Opposition of Exploiting Tempi Tragedy

The tragic railway accident in Tempi continues to occupy citizens, according to a survey conducted for Action24. According to the Opinion Poll survey, citizens are dissatisfied with both the government, which they believe is trying to cover up responsibilities, and the opposition, accused of politically exploiting the tragedy in Tempi. In the political section of the survey, New Democracy maintains a clear lead, while the Solution Party holds second place. PASOK remains third, while SYRIZA records another low. If elections were held next Sunday, the Parliament would be seven-party, with two more parties vying for entry. Specifically, in voting intention, New Democracy leads at 25.4%, followed by the Solution Party at 13.4%, PASOK at 11.2%, and Greek Solution at 8%. KKE has 6.9%, SYRIZA 4.8%, Victory 2.5%, and Voice of Reason along with Democratic Movement at 2.4%. Regarding vote estimation, the percentages are as follows: New Democracy 30.4%, Solution Party 16%, PASOK 13.4%, Greek Solution 9.6%, KKE 8.2%, SYRIZA 5.8%, Victory 3%, Voice of Reason 2.9%, Democratic Movement 2.9%, MERA25 2.4%, New Left 1.2%. For the publication of the APT report on Tempi, 64.7% believe it added nothing new, while 23.9% say it changed their view of the railway tragedy. A significant 71.2% think the government is trying to cover up responsibilities for the Tempi disaster, versus 25.7% who disagree. An overwhelming 83.7% believe the opposition is attempting to exploit the tragedy politically, compared to 12.8% who do not. As for what concerns citizens most about Tempi, 45% cite the government’s potential cover-up attempt, 20.3% point to the opposition’s exploitation efforts, and 31.5% say both bother them equally. Regarding whether intense political confrontation over the tragedy aids in uncovering the truth, 53.3% say no or probably no, and 45% say yes or probably yes. On the question of whether accelerating legal proceedings for the trial is best right now, 88.4% agree, with only 7.3% opposing.
