On the occasion of the modern Conquest of the City…

Tomorrow is a historic and sad anniversary: The Fall of constantinople to the Turks in 1453. Therefore, for historical readings, creative thinking, and change distorted worldview…
In the last years there has been a big tourist turn of the Greek public towards Istanbul. On the occasion of a visit from me there, I want to testify a couple of thoughts:
(a) The presence of Greeks there is not a simple trip or tourism. It is a pilgrimage. Most of the monuments emerge from a civilization with characteristics of Greek thought and christian faith.
(b) The superficial passage of the monuments (e.x. Hagia Sophia, Monastery of Chora, Third) with a basic thought of where you will eat is meaningless.
(c) see Us (and we are) as the main financing of the purchase. The Greek cluster “to go to Turkey to get leather and bong” the exploit just fine. Personally, I saw that the cheap and the scam is a science. The good things have the same values and in Greece.
(d) After giving money (and in fact many many…), let’s not forget to fund and the Greek minority of istanbul and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which is fighting to preserve the monuments and the life.
(e) From Istanbul you’ll get what you want. The sense of the dip in the story and in the religion, or the apotheosis of kitsch (dances with χανούμισσες and other events). Source
