The recent serious damage suffered by the Peace and Friendship Stadium, due to the severe bad weather that has hit Attica in recent days, brought the issue of their poor country to the fore. Concerning the country’s Olympic property maintenance projects, a few days ago the 78m-euro competition was announced to restore the iconic housing of Kalatrava in OAKA. CORVERSE At the same time Tae Kwon Do’s troubled closed gym is preparing to gain new life, as plans to upgrade and utilize it are under way. The neglected SEF The Peace and Friendship Stadium, the closed stadium of the Greek State, inaugurated in 1985 at a total cost of 25m euros, is facing serious problems due to the long-term lack of reconstruction and maintenance. According to the SEF’s management, the damage that has occurred is attributed mainly to the absence of sufficient restoration work. Construction work for the completion of the SEF was completed in 1983, while the only renovation took place in 2004, costing 7.3 million euros, as part of the hosting of the Olympic football games. Since then, however, the emblematic stage has remained without any substantial interference, resulting in its infrastructure now having significant deterioration. CORVERSE Upgrading projects at OAKA A decisive step to enter a “brano” into the downhill of Olympic properties is the auction of the project for the Kalatrava roof in OAKA. The competition is conducted on behalf of the Ministry of Sports by TAIPED and more specifically the Orimansis Unit Works entitled “Static and Operating Restoration of the Central Stadium and the O.A.K.A.’s Cycling”. The cost of the VAT project is EUR 78.23 million. The auction of the project will take place on February 10, 2025, and on the 11th of the month it is scheduled to be opened. The aim of the project is to develop a study and carry out work to repair the problem points and to implement the necessary procedures to restore the required level of static adequacy of the metal structures of the two Imaging Houses of OAKA, as well as the maintenance – repair – replacement of elements of the metal structures, and the multicarbonal panels of the shelters of this athletic facility. It also includes the restoration of operation of the roof installations and the maintenance and safeguarding of functionality in existing rainwater drainage systems. The contractor is obliged to draw up a work plan on the basis of which the simultaneous use of these sports infrastructure, namely the Central Stadium and the Cycling Road during the project, will be ensured. Tae Kwon Do and beach volley stadium The incorporation of Tae Kwon Do in “Aenaon”, in the new Metropolitan Park of Faliro, following its definitive concession from the EBRD to the Region of Attica for the next 40 years, is expected to give him a new breath. It is recalled that the EDF had previously advanced to competitions for the concession of the so-called “Zone III” of the Faliro Olympic pole, which included the Tae Kwon Do stadium, who had come out barren. The plans are for this Olympic property to acquire new uses, as its conversion to a conference centre is seriously considered. In the context of this redevelopment, the beach volley stadium will become an open auditorium. It is recalled that after the Games were held, the stadium was used few times, in the early years alone. Then he lived looting, vandalism, and the natural deterioration of time from weather conditions. The Olympic properties of the Greek The most typical example of Olympic installations that were disabled were those built inside the former Greek airport. This is the closed basketball court, which hosted handball matches, the fencing hall, capacity 5,000 seats. Still, there were the Canoe/Kayak Slalom Center and the three softball-baseball courts. Finally, there was also the grass hockey centre never used after 2004. In their place, however, and in the context of the great reconstruction of the Greek by Lamda Development, the whole area is remodeled. And on an area of 444 acres a huge sports park is created with open to visitors state-of-the-art sports facilities, with basketball, football, track, swimming pools, tennis etc. Aim, to be an international reference point for sport, serving athletes, clubs, unions and federations from around the world.
