Olympiacos’ Moses Wright gets a Cypriot passport – counted as a foreigner in the Greek league

Moses Wright is very close to obtaining a Cypriot passport and strengthening Cyprus in Eurobasket 2025. Moses Wright has been in contact with the Cypriot Federation for a long time and, as everything seems, will not be long before he gets a Cypriot passport. Thus, the American Olympiacos center will be able to strengthen Cyprus as a naturalist in Eurobasket 2025. The question of several fans is whether Wright will be able to compete as a Greek with the Olympiacos jersey in the Greek league once he gets a Cypriot passport. Under the current GBL regulation, Wright will continue to struggle as a foreigner. To change this and be counted as a native (if a request is made), the relevant league regulation, which is set before the start of each season, should also be changed. What does the regulation say? A Cypriot athlete can compete as a Greek in the GBL only if he has Greek citizenship beyond the Cypriot. This includes players who are Greek at least one of the two parents or cases such as Sasha Vezenkov, who has been considered as a native player since 2015, when the relevant decision was made in the Government newspaper.
