The outgoing American president Barack Obama said yesterday that during the official visit abroad this week will reassure allies of the United States that the newly elected republican president, Donald Trump intends to maintain key strategic relations of the USA with all its countries, as well as with NATO.
Speaking before his trip to Europe and Latin America, Obama said that one of the most important things you can do during his trip is to reassure allies of the united states who may be concerned after the electoral victory of Trump last week on the candidate of the democratic Hillary Clinton.
The Trump strongly criticised the nato allies of the united states during his election campaign for not paying enough for their own defense, and hinted that the united states pay an unequally high amount which is excessive, in view of the global changes. He had also told the Washington Post that the US cannot continue to finance NATO at its current level.

Despite the criticism during the campaign the race for the expenses of the country for NATO, the Trump – who takes the presidential office on 20 January 2017 – has signalled that it is committed to the maintenance of relations with allies of the united states, said Obama.
“In conversation with the newly elected president, expressed great interest for the conservation of the basic strategies of our relations”, announced by Obama at a press conference before he left for Europe. “So, one of the messages that I can pass on is the commitment to NATO and the pro-Atlantic alliance,” he added.
“One of the most important functions which I can serve at this stage (…) is to inform (Ccc: allies) that there is no reduction in the determination with regard to America’s commitment to maintaining a strong and dynamic relationship with NATO and (is) the recognition that these alliances are not just good for Europe is good for the united states and is of vital importance for the world,” said the American president.
The European Union agreed to a new defensive plan yesterday, which allows for the first time, the immediate dispatch of forces abroad, which gives it the ability to act if necessary without the united states. The decision seemed to be taken partly from the criticism of Trump.
