The approval of the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Christos Stylianidis and the Secretary-General of Shipping and Ports, Evangelos Kyriazopoulos, received the conclusion of a Programmatic Convention for the construction of a boat platform outside the port, which will be largely covered with funds from him. The project at the port of Kalymnos, approved by the Port Development Planning Committee (ESAL), is a total budget of 11,945,000 euros, financed by the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy (General Secretariat for Shipping and Ports), through the NSRF and the program “Transports 2021 – 2027”. As mentioned in the Ministry’s press release, construction of the new dock is one of the most important infrastructure projects for the local community of the island. After almost 15 years of processes, a final solution is given to the issue of the safe approach of large ships to the island and cruise ships, which today do not approach the island. At the same time, an important part of the coastal front of the city of Kalymnos will be released from traffic (IX, taxi, heavy vehicles etc.), which, along with the related reconstructions, will render the city a more attractive, urban environment. In this way, the smooth and more economical supply of the residents of Kalymnos is enhanced, while giving significant growth impetus and new perspective to the business and tourism activities of the region.
