Nova, a member of United Group, the leading provider of telecommunications and media in Southeast Europe, was honored by the Ministry of Environment and Energy for its substantial contribution to restoring areas affected by natural disasters, acting as a ‘Restoration and Reforestation Champion’. Nova, along with 26 other companies, institutions, and entities, including the Republic of Cyprus, received the award during a special event titled ‘Collaboration for Creation – A pioneering institution with significant results’, held at KPISEN on World Forest Day, March 21, 2025. The event was attended by Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou, Deputy Prime Minister Costis Chatzidakis, former Environment Ministers Thodoros Skylakakis and Kostas Skrekas, former Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy George Amyras, General Secretary of Forests Stathis Stathopoulos, and General Director of Forests and Forest Environment Evangelos Gkoundoufas. Nova implemented an extensive restoration and rehabilitation program focusing on Dadia National Forest Park in Evros, Rhodes, and the Sacred Monastery of Penteli in Attica, areas affected by fires in 2023 and 2024. The aim was to enhance the natural regeneration of forests, protect soil from floods and erosion, restore through reforestation, and support local communities. Additionally, Nova is developing the innovative ‘Smart Forest Rhodes’ policy project to protect the Natura 2000 region ‘Valley of the Butterflies’. Nova’s CEO, Giorgos Lamprou, stated: ‘This award is a great honor for Nova and confirms our practical commitment to environmental protection and social responsibility. We responded promptly and effectively to the need to restore valuable forest ecosystems like those in Dadia and Rhodes, through projects implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Energy and local authorities. We will continue investing in environmental protection, utilizing all technological possibilities available to us. Our commitment is to support our country against the climate crisis and collaborate with public authorities for a more sustainable future for everyone.’ The award was received by Nova’s Corporate Affairs Executive Director, Martha Kesisioglou, who emphasized: ‘At Nova, we focus our actions on environmental protection, not only in restoration but also prevention. We have a close and structured collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the General Secretariat of Forests, and the General Directorate of Forests, with whom we have implemented exceptional projects in Dadia, Rhodes, and Penteli. With the pioneering ‘Smart Forest’ project we are offering to the island of Rhodes, we take another step in Corporate Social Responsibility, hoping to become a model for protecting the ‘Natura 2000′ network from natural disasters across the country.’ Nova’s sustainable development strategy includes environmental protection and biodiversity enhancement actions, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG principles.
