The death toll has risen to 59 from the deadly fire that erupted during a concert at a club in North Macedonia. According to the Ministry of Interior, the victims’ ages range from 16 to 22 years old. Among them was an anti-drug police officer who was on duty. Out of the 59 victims, 35 have been identified so far, with 31 being residents of Kocani and Stip. As of midday, 155 people were being treated for injuries, according to Interior Minister Pante Toskovski. Arrest warrants have been issued for four individuals, but details about suspects remain undisclosed.
The fire broke out during a performance by a famous hip-hop group inside the Pulse nightclub when fireworks ignited the roof. Videos shared on social media show the moment the roof caught fire, followed by panic among attendees as many were trampled. The tragedy occurred around 3:00 AM local time (4:00 AM Greece time) while approximately 1,500 people were present.
North Macedonia’s President, Gordana Siljanovska, expressed deep sorrow over the “unspeakable tragedy,” and Prime Minister Christian Mitsoski canceled all public events. Greece has responded to North Macedonia’s request for assistance, transferring three injured individuals to Papаниkoláou hospital via ambulances.
