The toll from the fire that erupted during a concert in a large club in North Macedonia’s city of Kocani has been tragic. Official reports indicate that 51 people lost their lives, with over 100 injured. The fire broke out at the Pulse club while more than 1,500 people were attending a concert by popular local hip-hop group DNK. Dozens of individuals were transported to hospitals in Kocani, Stip, and Skopje suffering from burns and respiratory issues due to smoke inhalation.

The blaze quickly spread to the ceiling and roof of the nightclub, engulfing it in flames. According to Interior Minister Pance Toskovski, ‘As of now, we have confirmed that 51 people have lost their lives and over 100 have been injured and taken to hospitals in Stip, Kocani, and Skopje.’ Videos shared on social media show fireworks being set off during the concert, which ignited the roof. Seconds later, flames are visible on the roof. The singer continued performing until realizing there were flames directly above the stage. He then stopped the concert and urged attendees to evacuate.

Many victims reportedly died from trampling as panic ensued.
