Greek politician Nikos Plakias responded sharply to journalist Thanasis Avgerinos’ announcement that he is joining the newly forming political party led by Maria Karystianou. In a pointed social media post, Plakias urged Avgerinos to reflect on who had previously filed an ‘exonerating complaint’ against former Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis — a move that triggered a parliamentary investigative committee and ultimately led to Karamanlis’ acquittal. According to Plakias, the government’s official finding in that case classified the matter as a misdemeanor, not a criminal offense.
Call for Clarity
In his full comment — posted directly under Avgerinos’ announcement on X (formerly Twitter) — Plakias offered to brief the journalist personally, saying: ‘If you’re going to go through all that trouble to uncover the unknown causes of the crime and where the cover-up happened, you can just call me. I’ll explain everything — with evidence, photos, videos, and documents — so you don’t waste time chasing what isn’t actually unknown.’ He added, ‘I think Maria knows — ask her first.’
The exchange highlights growing tensions ahead of the formal launch of Karystianou’s party, amid broader debates about accountability, transparency, and political realignments in Greece.
