Nikos Kardalias: In the prosecutor the findings of 2020 with 2023 – “I have absolute confidence in Greek justice”

The Office of the Attorney General visited this morning (03.02.2025) the Regional Chief of Attica, in order to submit the two findings from the management audit carried out by the College of Accountants, on the operations of its administrations and the ECSNA, during 2020-2023. In his statements Nikos Hardalias stressed his will for full transparency in the activities of the Region of Attica and ECSNA. He avoided making any comment about the findings of the management audit saying that he does not want to advance Justice which he, as he pointed out, fully trusts. CORVERSE “As I was committed a few months ago, when we took responsibility for the new Regional Authority, control of operations in both the Region of Attica and the ECSNA will be completed. All in the light. That’s what I said, that’s what I’m doing today. A moment ago, I submitted to the Honorable Prosecutor the two management reports of the Body of Accountants concerning the activities in the Region of Attica and the ENSNA, in 2020-2023, for his own further evaluation, for his own findings. From the first moment, the issue of transparency was – and will remain – for us a matter of dignity and responsibility. It wasn’t an election cheetah. It was not a communicative firework,” Nikos Hardalias initially said in his statements. And he added: “We are therefore waiting for developments and continue our effort in relation to the everyday lives of citizens on the major issues we have to deal with.” CORVERSE In a reporter’s question about the results of the checks and what is included in the two findings, the Regional Commissioner of Attica noted: “You will allow me, because the process is now under way, to make no public reference to them. I have complete confidence in Greek Justice. I don’t want to replace, or advance anyone. I think what I should do institutionally, I will do tomorrow morning. In other words, I will inform the Heads of the Regional Council, as – I remind you – the decision to manage the activities of both the Region of Attica and the ENTSNA in 2020 – 2023, was our proposal unanimously adopted by the Regional Council. So let’s have a little patience. As far as I am concerned, you will allow me until this process of control is completed, at a prosecutor’s level, to deal with the major problems that the Basin has, issues that require us to be vigilant and involved daily.” It is recalled that Nikos Hardalias had recommended that a management check be carried out in the Region of Attica and in the ECSNA, in the Regional Council held on 31 January 2024, a proposal unanimously accepted by all parties in the House. “This control should be the fault of all administrations. And we, when our term of office is over, will ask that the same be done, so that each administration will know exactly what it receives and there will be no shadow,” the Regional Commissioner pointed out at this meeting.
