Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias has dismissed claims linking the tragic train collision in Temp with the transport of military or NATO equipment. In an official document submitted to Parliament, responding to a query from the KKE (Communist Party of Greece), Dendias emphasized that there was absolutely no connection between the Temp disaster and the transportation of military goods or fuels for the Armed Forces. Furthermore, he stated that no military material was transported via the country’s railway network on behalf of the Armed Forces or NATO member states during January and February 2023. The KKE had questioned the transfer of hazardous materials near populated areas in Larissa, specifically asking about the fuel types used for unmanned aircraft stationed at the military airbase there. Dendias clarified that JP-8 fuel is utilized for these operations, stressing adherence to safety protocols during its transport. Additionally, Dendias addressed concerns raised by Kyriakos Velopoulos, leader of Greek Solution, regarding the presence of Air Force personnel at the accident site, confirming their role was purely supportive and not related to any military logistics.
