Nikos Dendias: 1.7 billion euros will be saved 10 years from the closure of 137 camps

The decision to close 137 will save 1.7 billion euros in a decade’s time, the Minister of National Defence stressed, responding to a topical question in the House of Independent MP George Manousos, who described the “national crime” as the decision made last November by the leadership of the Armed Forces. “With regard to the decision to reorganise military structures, this was made in the context of a completely new and different philosophy aimed at creating a modern and flexible shape, which will adapt to the modern demands of the Armed Forces,” Nikos Dendias stressed about the closure of camps and the merger of units. CORVERSE ‘Through the abolition of camps and the merger of units, the aim is to save human resources, to increase the staffing of units located in critical areas of the border, to reduce response time in the event of a crisis resulting in an increase in fighting power, as well as to reduce unnecessary budget costs, since the amount expected to be saved in decades ranges from EUR 1.7 billion,’ he stressed. As he pointed out, ‘the close relationship between Greece; The United States in the field of defence is inevitable, given that the US is a crucial strategic partner of the country, especially in the framework of the Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreements we have concluded, the Strategic Dialogue held annually and joint allied activities, through which the need for further strengthening our defence cooperation is constantly highlighted, due to the crucial geopolitical importance of our country.”
