Nikos Androulakis to Meet Archbishop Damianos of Mount Sinai in Cairo

A meeting with Archbishop Damianos of the historic Monastery of Saint Catherine is set to take place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in Cairo. Nikos Androulakis, President of PASOK, will engage in this significant encounter following a lengthy telephone conversation held on Tuesday afternoon, June 3, 2025. During this call, both parties agreed to meet in person to discuss recent developments surrounding the monastery. Mr. Androulakis mentioned that he had planned a trip to Alexandria to meet Patriarch Theodoros but decided instead to consult with representatives of the Monastery of Sinai in Cairo regarding these critical issues. Criticizing the government’s handling of the situation, Androulakis questioned their actions when confronted with Egyptian obstruction and why the draft agreement was not signed four months ago. He also highlighted the disparity between previous announcements and current judicial decisions affecting Greece-Egypt relations. On Friday, June 6, Androulakis will proceed with his pre-planned meeting with Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria and visit the Greek community.
