Nikos Androulakis on Fofi Gennimata: “We Continue on the Path She Paved, a Path of Unity and Autonomy”

A significant void was left in the political landscape on October 25, 2021, when Fofi Gennimata, then president of PASOK, passed away at the age of 56 after a long battle with cancer. Her successor, Nikos Androulakis, marked this solemn day with a heartfelt post on his personal Facebook account, commemorating what he described as a “black day” for PASOK. Androulakis stated that Gennimata’s struggles will forever inspire the public, emphasizing that she was the one who managed to keep “the spark of progress alive.” Gennimata was admitted to the “Evangelismos” hospital on October 11, 2021, and passed away at noon on Monday, October 25, following a severe deterioration in her health. In his message, Androulakis wrote: “Today marks four years since our beloved leader and President of our Movement, Fofi Gennimata, left us. With remarkable political strength, she took on the responsibility of keeping the Democratic Alignment alive during extremely difficult times for our country. Above all, she succeeded in preserving the flame of progress against the blows of populism and untrustworthiness. Her struggles for reducing inequalities, addressing the refugee crisis, and achieving gender equality will always inspire us. We continue on the path she paved—a path of unity and autonomy.”
