Nigeria: Kidnappers demand huge sum to release 81 students

The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of 1 million nairas (more than 2,000 euros) for each of the 81 indoor high school students abducted during a raid in northern Nigeria last month.

Authorities attribute the abductions to gangs they generally call bandits – “thugs”, or “bandits” – for ransom.

The kidnappers released 28 children last month. A first group, an equal number of children, had been allowed to leave for the first two days after the abduction.
