Overturning the political scene late Sunday night (25.08.24), after the possibility that his MEP Nicholas Farantouris might claim the party’s presidency. With related videos that he posted to the MPs from Prespes, where he participates in the anniversary events for the 90 years of the Florina Chamber, the 48-year-old Professor of University and MEP of SYRIZA Nikolas Farantouris left open all possibilities, stating: “Here, from the lake of Prespes, symbol of unity and cooperation of the peoples, symbol of a Greece outward, active, demanding and effective. “In the Balkans, the Eastern Mediterranean and all over Europe, but also a symbol of a Left effective with confidence and dignity that kept the country standing, solved problems and worked for social and regional cohesion, reduced inequalities and peace. A unique message I can send these hours. Retaliation message, extrovert, finally hope message. We can, in our hand, make it,” he stressed in the video below. In contact with newssit.gr, Mr. Farantouris pointed out that “the message of the Prespes is both to the Government and political forces and especially to developments in Syriza”. For the Government, he recalled that “the country abstains from taking those initiatives at international and national level imposed by treaties, crawls behind third countries and does not care for the interests of the people”. And for the interior of SYRIZA, he said that “the message of the Prespes is a cry of agony for the spiral of introversion and dissolution”, as he described it, “a picture that does not honor the expectations of thousands of friends but of the whole society.” And he concluded: “It is not a nomination because we simply have no such procedure open. I have always been institutional and committed to the unity, coherence and effectiveness of the space to which I belong and serve.”
