Next three days for students – When will schools close in December

After the four-day celebration of the October 28th national holiday follows the school holiday on the anniversary of the Polytechnic, resulting in students enjoying another three-day rest from classes. This year, the anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising falls Sunday (17.11.2024), therefore, the relevant events in primary and secondary schools will take place from Friday (15.11.2024). Meanwhile, the Athens Student Coordinating Committee invites students to abstain from classes on Monday (4.11.2024) and participate in the protest march scheduled at 12:00 in Propylaia. In this call, several high school students of the country have responded (Secondary education) – at meetings of the student councils – expressing their opposition to the measures put into effect by the Ministry of Education. So far, protest marches have been planned in the following areas: Athens, Thessaloniki, Veria, Serres, Katerini, Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra, Sitia, Ioannina, Preveza, Arta, Corfu, Kavala, Komotini, Xanthi, Kalamata, Sparta, Tripoli, Corinth, Nafplio, Florina, Kozani and Ptolemaida. “We put our cell phone in the pocket, but you messed up our school, on November 4 the Ministry of Education gets expelled from the students” is described in the announcement of the Athens Student Coordination Committee. Students’ requests include the following issues: It’s enough with unfair miscarriages and terror to our classmates to make all the trips and to support all the children financially to go. Cover all teacher gaps Get back the departmental mergers Repairs and controls on school buildings and infrastructure Psychologists, social workers in all schools Free snacks to students, reduce prices in cafeterias by abolishing VAT! No thought of triple nationwide! Abolition of EBE and the Bank of Issues At the same time, schools are expected to stay closed on Wednesday (20.11.2024), due to the expected participation of the IOC (Teaching Federation of Greece) and OLME (Federation of Middle Education Officers) in the 24-hour strike announced by ADEDY, following the relevant GSEE decision. After amendments to the school program, due to the mobilisations, we are on our way to Christmas holidays, where according to programming, schools will remain closed from 24.12.2024 to 7.1.2025, while the very next day (8.1.2025), students will sit back in the desks. Students of all grades will normally go to school on Monday (23.12.2024), where it will be the last day of classes before the holidays Depending on the programming of each school unit, students may take a few hours’ course and then participate in a Christmas event within the school.
