New Witness List in OPKEPE Scandal Inquiry: PASOK Officials to Testify, Solution Found for Unknown Soldier Cleaning

As individuals linked to the illegal subsidy network are being jailed by the European Public Prosecutor, the Greek parliamentary investigative committee continues its work uncovering aspects of the multi-million-euro scandal. Next week, representatives from investigated tech companies will testify. Within approximately two weeks, Agriculture Ministers from 2019–2025 will begin testifying: Makis Voridis, Spilios Livanos, Giorgos Georgantas, Lefteris Avgenakis, Kostas Tsiamaras, and caretaker Minister Giorgos Tsakiris. The opposition and New Democracy (ND) have agreed on a new witness list. Key figures such as Deputy Minister Giorgos Mylonakis, Giorgos Xyloouris (‘Frappe’), Andreas Stratakis (‘Butcher’), and Popi Semertzidou (‘new farmer’ with luxury cars) will appear. ND will also summon PASOK associates including Lampros Antonopoulos, Nikos Mounakis, and Moschos Korasidis. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed his commitment: “We won’t back down, regardless of political cost, until all who received illegal funds are exposed and punished.” He emphasized ongoing payments to farmers and acknowledged their patience. A triple verification system—cross-checking livestock numbers with meat/dairy sales and animal feed purchases—is now enforced by the Independent Authority of Public Revenue (AADE). Previously, only 3% were checked; now, due to EU pressure, it’s 30%, delaying disbursements. Regarding the Unknown Soldier monument cleaning dispute between Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and Haris Doukas, a solution was reached: the Defense Ministry will assign the task to a private company, bypassing constitutional concerns raised over municipal authority.
