A new wildfire broke out Saturday afternoon in the Kilkis region of northern Greece—this time in low vegetation near the village of Krystoní. The Hellenic Fire Service has deployed a substantial response, including 32 firefighters, one ground intervention team, and 10 fire engines. Support is also being provided by water tankers and heavy machinery from the Region of Central Macedonia, aimed at quickly containing the fire’s front.
Two fires in one day
Earlier the same afternoon, another wildfire ignited in a forested area near Leipsydrio—shortly after 3:30 p.m.—prompting a large-scale emergency response. Authorities sent an alert via the national 112 emergency system to residents of Leipsydrio, urging them to remain on standby. That blaze drew 36 firefighters, two ground teams from the 2nd Mobile Unit of the Fire Service (2nd EMODE), 11 vehicles, and five aircraft. Municipal water tankers and construction equipment also joined the effort.
No immediate threat to populated areas
According to the Fire Service, neither fire currently threatens any inhabited settlements. However, crews remain on high alert to ensure full containment and prevent further spread. Both incidents are under active monitoring, with resources maintained on site pending full extinguishment.
