A fresh wave of Turkish provocations was recorded Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in the Aegean Sea, as Turkish military aircraft and drones conducted multiple airspace violations—prompting an immediate response from the Hellenic Air Force.

Turkish F-16s Violate Greek Airspace

According to a statement by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), two armed Turkish F-16 fighter jets carried out one violation of air traffic rules in the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) and one full incursion into Greek national airspace. During the interception operation, two aerial engagements occurred between the Turkish jets and Greek fighter aircraft scrambled to identify and intercept the intruders.

Drones and Maritime Patrol Aircraft Also Involved

In parallel, two Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) conducted five separate violations within the Athens FIR. Additionally, a Turkish naval cooperation aircraft—a modified ATR-72—entered the same FIR once and violated Greek national airspace on five occasions.

GEETHA confirmed that all Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted by Greek air assets in accordance with international law and standard operational procedures for such incidents.
