The Social Cohesion and Family Ministry’s bill on ‘Social Antiparochi, Social Rent, Tritoikni Status, and Other Provisions’ was passed with a majority vote. ‘As of today (10.9.2025), the bill on Social Antiparochi, Social Rent, and Tritoikni status is now state law. We now have two new tools to tackle the housing crisis, and families with three children or children with disabilities are institutionally supported,’ said Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, after the bill’s approval in Parliament on September 9, 2025. The Minister responded to opposition claims by presenting two innovative and immediately applicable programs aimed at increasing housing supply, lowering rental prices, and building a significant stock of social housing. Regarding Social Antiparochi, she stated that the government is reintroducing and amending the mechanism to make it more functional, efficient, and implementable. The initial goal is the construction of up to 5,000 housing units, at least 1,500 of which will be social housing.
