The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy has launched a tender for hydrocarbon seismic surveys in western and southern Greece. Minister Stavros Papastaurou signed a decision approving a proposal by the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production Corporation (EDEYEP) to conduct a competitive procedure for granting seismic survey licenses in these regions.
Open Data and Market Interest
The initiative aims to respond to market interest and fund new seismic surveys that will generate non-exclusive geophysical data. This move follows recent developments in Greece’s hydrocarbons sector, including energy agreements involving international companies Chevron and ExxonMobil.
Building a Public Geodata Bank
A key priority is establishing a publicly accessible database of 2D and 3D seismic data. By making high-quality, non-exclusive data available, the government seeks to make these areas more attractive to hydrocarbon firms—reducing investment risk while improving data accuracy and accessibility.
Tender Details
Interested companies may submit proposals covering either the entire designated exploration area or selected parts of it. Survey programs may include two-dimensional (2D) and/or three-dimensional (3D) seismic data acquisition.
EDEYEP will soon issue an International Public Invitation, drafted under Law 2289/1995 (Government Gazette A’ 27/8.2.1995), following expressions of interest from seismic data acquisition and processing firms.
The submission deadline for tenders begins on the day the invitation is published in the Official Journal of the European Union and runs for 90 days. After the deadline, EDEYEP will evaluate all submissions and forward its recommendation to the Ministry.
