New Left Party Votes for Autonomous Path, Open to Popular Front but Not Only with SYRIZA

In a significant move, the New Left Party has opted for an autonomous course following a vote during its Central Committee meeting on April 13, 2025. Out of 143 members present, 80 supported the party’s independent path against 57 who favored forming a ‘Popular Front.’ The proposal by the President of New Left, Alexi Haritzi, did not gain traction programmatically until the conference. A compromise was reached through an amendment proposed by Euclid Tsakalotos, who argued that cooperation should not be exclusively with SYRIZA due to lingering tensions. Despite this, the final text agreed upon allows for collaboration with other parties while excluding exclusive ties with SYRIZA.
