The speech of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Parliament on Friday evening (7/3/25) began dramatically when members of the New Left threw placards inside the parliament. The incident occurred immediately after Mitsotakis ascended to the parliamentary podium and started speaking. The placards, which read ‘you are guilty,’ ‘leave now,’ and depicted Mitsotakis, Triantopoulos, and Karamanlis, fell over the podium where the prime minister was speaking. President of Parliament Nikos Voutsis called for security while Mitsotakis calmly remarked, ‘this happens.’ Three young individuals were arrested; they were later identified as members of the ‘New Left.’ Subsequently, the New Left issued a statement condemning the arrest of its members and demanding their immediate release. According to reports, following intervention by Prime Minister Mitsotakis, the three youths were not referred to court. However, Nikitas Kaklamanis blocked further invitations to the New Left, stating that he would not allow the party to issue invitations for entry into Parliament after learning that the students had entered with official invitations from the party’s youth wing.
