An unexpected incident occurred during Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ speech in the Greek Parliament on Friday evening (7/3/25). Members of the New Left party threw banners from the upper gallery as Mitsotakis began his address. The banners read ‘you are guilty,’ ‘leave now,’ and featured caricatures of Mitsotakis, Triantopoulos, and Karamanlis. President of Parliament Nikos Voutsis called for security while Mitsotakis calmly remarked, ‘these things happen.’ Three young individuals were detained; they were later identified as members of the New Left party. Following the event, the New Left issued a statement condemning the arrest of their members and demanded their immediate release. According to reports, with the intervention of the prime minister, the three youths were not referred to immediate prosecution. Meanwhile, Nikitas Kaklamanis announced a ban on New Left party invitations to parliament after discovering that the individuals had entered using official invitations from the party’s youth wing. Kaklamanis stated that he would not allow this specific parliamentary group to issue any more invitations for the remainder of the session.
