New Left Declines Pre-Investigation for Tempi Scandal – SYRIZA Calls It a ‘Negative Development’

in

The New Left has decided to abstain from the pre-investigation process regarding the Tempi scandal, effectively sidelining SYRIZA’s proposal to include Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the indictment. In an official statement, the New Left argues that since New Democracy has submitted a proposal accusing K. Ach. Karamanlis of misconduct, any other proposal—whether it concerns the former or current Prime Minister—will be rejected due to the lack of required parliamentary majority. The New Left further calls on the opposition not to assist New Democracy in absolving Mitsotakis and Karamanlis by submitting proposals destined to fail. Meanwhile, SYRIZA does not have the 30 MPs needed to propose the formation of a Pre-Investigation Committee and is now seeking four additional MPs to bring its proposal to a vote in Parliament. SYRIZA sources criticize the New Left’s decision as a ‘negative development,’ questioning why this stance emerged only when Mitsotakis’s referral was at stake. They emphasize their legally substantiated proposal and will decide tomorrow (May 30, 2025) on their next steps.
