The protective measures that will be in effect until November 15, 2025, were published in a new Joint Ministerial Decision by the ministers of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, National Economy and Finance, Internal Affairs and Citizen Protection, Development, Social Cohesion and Family, Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, and Tourism. The KYA incorporates the unanimous recommendation of scientists following an emergency meeting of the Permanent Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment and Mitigation of Seismic Vulnerability, as well as the Permanent Scientific Committee Monitoring the Greek Volcanic Arc, regarding the reassessment of access and stay restrictions in specific areas of the volcanic complex due to geodynamic phenomena in Santorini. Specific measures include traffic control at the Athinios Port and road network, limiting visitor numbers at old Fira Port to 350 people, restricted access in Armeni Oia settlement’s eastern section, and various other prohibitions and permissions across different locations like Ammoudi and Thirassia. Violators are subject to administrative penalties under Law 187/1973.
