Under the central slogan ‘Together for Greece 2030’, New Democracy—the main centre-right political party in Greece—has opened its 16th Regular Congress at the Metropolitan Expo in Athens. The event marks a strategic effort to reunite forces within the ‘blue’ political camp after a period of internal reflection and consolidation.
Congress Kicks Off Amid Electoral Readiness
The congress was formally inaugurated by Theodoros Roussopoulos, head of the Organising Committee. At 7:25 p.m., Prime Minister and ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered the opening address. In his speech, Mitsotakis is expected to place the party apparatus on electoral alert, issuing a call for unified action—amid ongoing public and political speculation about the timing of the next general elections.
Early Arrival, High Energy
Doors at the Metropolitan Expo opened early to allow delegates to collect their credentials. By 5:30 p.m., the venue’s ‘photo booths’—a lighthearted nod to modern political engagement—were already in full swing. Senior party figures, MPs, MEPs, and cabinet ministers began arriving gradually throughout the afternoon.
Among those already present were Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis; Christos Staikouras; Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidaki; Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis; Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis; and Deputy Development Minister Stavros Kalafatis.
Also in attendance were prominent ND figures including Giannis Plakiotakis, Evangelos Meimarakis, Konstantinos Kyranakis, Theodoros Roussopoulos, Alexandra Sdoukou, Fani Palli-Petrallia, and Eliza Vozemberg. Additional attendees included MP Charalampos Athanasiou (Lesbos), MP Notis Mitarakis, Parliamentary Spokesperson Dimitris Markopoulos, Angelos Syrigos, Stratos Simopoulos, Evripidis Stylianidis, and Giannis Oikonomou.
