New Alkarnassos: Disturbing Footage of Inmate’s Deadly Attack on Prison Guard

A shocking incident unfolded today (19.03.2025) in Heraklion, following a deadly attack by an inmate on a 45-year-old deputy warden at the correctional facility. A 25-year-old Palestinian inmate, recently transferred from the Chania prisons, stabbed the 45-year-old deputy warden who was on duty at the correctional store in New Alkarnassos. According to cretalive.gr, the 25-year-old, serving an eight-year sentence for human trafficking, attacked the warden from behind as he opened a cell door, stabbing him twice with a makeshift skewer. Initially, the warden thought he had been hit by a pellet. Documented footage reveals the warden proceeding carelessly while opening cells, unaware of the 25-year-old Palestinian waiting behind him with a raised hand. The next moment shows the attacker already stabbing the employee. The incident triggered unrest within the prison. The 45-year-old warden was transported by EKAB ambulance to the local hospital where he received first aid and X-rays. Fortunately, he survived what could have been a fatal attack. Law enforcement was immediately informed, and members of the Special Operations Team managed to subdue the 25-year-old attacker using specialized equipment and shields. The assailant offered no resistance upon seeing the armed officers and is now held in solitary confinement at the correctional facility. Reports indicate that the 25-year-old had previously been treated at the Korydallos prison psychiatric ward before being transferred to Trikala prisons. The management of the Union of Prison Employees of New Alkarnassos issued a formal statement condemning abandonment and indifference in the wake of the bloody episode.
